Chi Yak
Dingle Bay, June 2018, 9:40pm. After a long day, a good dinner and a pint, might as well kill some time in the evening before the band starts-up.

Angler's Dream
It only happens one season in every couple of decades, and 2018 is one of them.
Every April, the caddis flies hatch on the Rio Grande near Taos, NM. Usually the water is high and muddy making wading impossible and feeding undetectable. Sometimes the weather doesn't cooperate. Sometimes there is snow or ice on the river banks. Normally there is a disruptive "rubber" hatch (whitewater rafting).
But this year, the conditions are nearly perfect. Water is very clear, cool, and low. Too low for a rubber hatch. Air temperatures are perfect -- cold overnight, warming during the day to nearly 70F degrees. The trout are eagerly taking flies. It's like a powder day for anglers.

Springtime
The youngster was quite surprised after school today upon discovering our big plans for a lunch date. We all enjoyed it.
