Each spring it looks a little different.   This year offered a tremendous snowpack plus unusual early rain.   Such a gift from the heavens.   You cannot believe the sound of all the bees in unison, and the smell is heavenly.

• absence of hunger
• inexperience
• lacks knowledge of the prey, thinking it might have weapons
• motive:   desiring only a playmate and not a meal

So she gets within striking distance, but simply cannot go for the kill.
